This mystical site on the Paulsberg hill in the Wehlener Forest is considered the oldest pre-Christian cult site in the Moselle region. A walk there is not just physical exercise, but a journey to the spiritual roots of our homeland.
The footpath from the Lifestyle Resort Zum Kurfürsten zur Dreifaltigkeit leads you through the pure, oxygen-rich forest air of the plateau. The walk is approximately 3,8 km long and takes about 48 minutes. The route is flat and well-maintained, making it an ideal outing for a relaxing morning or a meditative afternoon.

A place full of legends and symbols
The historical significance of this site is immense. According to ancient tradition, none other than Saint Boniface himself erected the sign of the cross here to establish Christian doctrine in what was then a predominantly pagan region.
The centerpiece of the site today is the so-called "Trinity Column." This is an artistic replica of the original Rococo-style wayside shrine from around 1760. While the original now stands protected in front of the cemetery in Wehlen, the replica marks the exact spot where the hilltop gently slopes down into the Wehlen plateau.

The structure: A three-sided column, approximately 4 meters high, rises from a striking triangular base.

The crown: The column is topped with an almost pointed crown featuring three triangular panels. These panels masterfully depict the three divine persons of the Trinity.

The naming: Due to this extraordinary Trinity cross, the entire site is simply called "At the Trinity" by the local people.
Natural monument and place of peace
The statue is shaded by three old linden trees, which – in keeping with the symbolism – were also planted in a triangle. These mighty trees lend the place an almost solemn stillness and provide cool shade in the summer.
In earlier times, the Trinity Cross was an important destination for devout worshippers who made pilgrimages here in times of physical and spiritual distress, seeking solace and healing. Even today, the place has lost none of its appeal. Benches beneath the broad-crowned linden trees invite visitors to linger and meditate. The adjacent playground is a welcome destination for families, ensuring that the Trinity Cross remains a place for all generations.
Distant views over the Moselle Valley
A visit to the Trinity monument is worthwhile not only for its historical significance. Near the monument, hikers are rewarded with a breathtaking view over the villages of Maring-Noviand and Lieser , as well as the seemingly endless rows of vineyards.
